20 Years Of Mayhem at The Stir Cove

By Lucy Lennon On a day that saw temperatures reach 100+ degrees, droves of people flooded into the Stir Cove at Harrah’s last night for the sold-out show featuring Jake Burns, Flogging Molly & Dropkick Murphys. Looking down on the audience from the deck, there was a sea of green shirts, ginger hair and kilts. Ages ranging from old punks, that have hung up their spikes and mohawks, to the young punks being introduced to the bands by their parents. Local Bands Rock Wired

Friday night at Wired, four local bands rocked the roof off the small bar. I arrived early to the bar and was able to enjoy a soundcheck, which included Adam Petersen growling out a version of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme. I was already sold on the night. The Omaha View crew sang along gleefully. Petersen was the opening act and was a stark contrast to the rest of the evening. Seated on a purple velvet chair with his acoustic guitar, he played a mix of original songs and covers. One of the standout covers was his final song, Hurt. The Rose Theater Presents: A special Broadway production of Disney’s Newsies. A group of boys led by Jack (Cowboy) Kelly, take a stand for what is right when times were hard. Back in 1899 a real-life story about Brooklyn news boys who on strike when Joseph Pulitzer raised the cost of newspapers, taking away what little profit the boys were making. An amazing, crazy talented cast of young folks will sing, dance and cheer their way into your hearts.
